CAD Designer

Sweeney Controls Company is seeking a CAD Designer to be responsible for drafting the schematics and layout drawings necessary for production of control panels for automated control systems. The CAD Designer will create complete design drawing packages under the direction of a Systems Architect. The CAD Designer is expected to work within the design criteria established by the Systems Architect; however, they will be creative and resourceful to document detailed design information.

The CAD Designer must be able to read electrical schematics and process flow diagrams. The CAD Designer is expected to take pride in their work, pay close attention to detail, and continuously learn about our business to help ensure consistency of design.

The job:

The CAD Designer plays a key role in completing understandable designs for team members to produce, and for contractors to install, by carrying out the following core duties:

  • Be a Hero by producing drawings that will be valuable for our clients for years to come, with user-friendly design that our clients can rely on throughout the 15+ year lifespan of their control system
  •    o  Analyze design information, such as system take-off; circuit diagrams accompanied by spreadsheets detailing instances; PLC input/output lists; and motor manifests, to plan the best approach for completing easy-to-follow drawings, while working independently, engaging team members as appropriate
       o  Complete electrical design and layout of control panel drawings, including:
          480VAC, 120VAC, and 24VDC power distribution
          PLC input and output drawings
          Physical interior and exterior control panel layout drawings
          Field interconnect drawings including loop drawings and point-to-point connection diagrams
          Other drawings as necessary to provide a complete drawing package
       o  Generate, update, and maintain Bills of Materials
       o  Update redlined drawings and track drawing changes

  • Sustain your inquisitive mindset to enable Best Practices within our organization, and maintain industry regulation knowledge
  •   o  Continuously refine your CAD knowledge and skills
      o  Remain up-to-date on UL508A certification principles

  • Help cultivate a consistent client experience by contributing to the refinement of CAD guidelines
  •   o  Maintain familiarity with control panel components, understanding how the component design relates to control panel construction and certification requirements
      o  Channel your expertise to propose updates for drawing guidelines
      o  Hone CAD processes and procedures

  • Foster clear communication by Keeping it Clean, and ensuring that key process documents are kept current
  •   o  Manage and maintain the parts database
      o  Manage and maintain the symbol catalogs
      o  Manage and maintain cutsheets and manuals

  • Help drive to our Vision and fulfill our Mission by assisting with other tasks when needed
  •   o  Assist with submittal documentation
      o  Create operation and maintenance manuals

What we’re looking for…

  • 2 year associate degree in Architectural Drafting, Electrical, or Electronic Technology
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Basic knowledge of electricity and electrical circuits
  • Ability to create graphical representations of electrical components
  • Able to work under minimal supervision, with the capability to recognize issues that need to be escalated
  • Possesses a high quality standard and pays close attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Basic knowledge of the UL508A standard and AutoCAD Electrical preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Long periods of sitting, with some walking, standing, or bending
  • Repetitive motion from typing and working at a computer
  • Close visual acuity for viewing software on a monitor
